This is true, the liger really is the biggest of the big cats.
Also, like most hybrids, they are born sterile so it really would be the last of the line... :D
    http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.restorationfarms.com/gifs/liger4.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.restorationfarms.com/liger.html&h=531&w=353&sz=65&tbnid=CyJJwsA-8sxxEM:&tbnh=132&tbnw=88&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dliger%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=liger&usg=__ae2HocKmmiThzFfogPvFu_jTB9o=&sa=X&ei=Q6-oTbW_K4SzhAfa3-zECQ&ved=0CDQQ9QEwAQ

Actually, according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiglon) anyway, there are second generation hybrids from a Tiger and Tigon called a Litigon and a Titigon depending on which is the male and which is the female. No wiki page for it but it is mentioned under the Tigon wiki page.

Sorry, Shaniqwa was the first name I could think of when I thought of 8 kids and irresponsible parenting. My apologies.

a module for layout and one for word processing??? Please no!!!! To me that sounds more complex. If i want to type a document I just open a blank template. What is so difficult about that?

    As far as i can tell Pages only lacks a few features to be a "fully fledged" word processor, such as;

Grammer checker (dubious value in my opinion)
    indexing
    Better mathematical notation input
Table of Contents is not bad but could have some additional features.
    better cross referencing

Personally I dont mind the inspector.

I write specifications and pages is fine for that. I can see for academic works Pages may be a bit lacking

I'm talking about portable music players that store music with a hard drive or flash memory that are NOT the Apple iPod models. In that case, it's only the higher-end players that support the AAC format, unless you buy Sony's current Walkman line of portable music players.

And I'll add/paraphrase from those who defend Apple to the end.

The average consumer doesn't want to think about formats and codecs - they just want to download a song and listen to it on whatever device they want to.

Stings a bit when the same argument praising Apple's "it just works" is used against them, aye?

Some of us would be willing to accept that. A minitower would consume about as much desk-space as two Mac Mini's. That's more than reasonable IMO.

Or in my case, it would use exactly no desk space since mine neatly tucks it away underneath. While I have no choice but to buy an iMac, a tower like this Core2 Duo based Vector GX (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1988081,00.asp) from Velocity Micro would give a much cleaner look with my setup.

This new service sounds pretty poor tbh. I probably wouldn't use it even if it was free.

Main reason being the places I wish I had a certain album with me tend to get hardly any phone signal anyways, let alone a 3g connection fast enough to stream music. Also the charges for going over your data limit are hilariously high. Stream a movie or two, a couple of albums and a tv show and my data is done for the month?

Also I think cloud storage is great as part of a back-up solution for my professional work, though I feel it is kind of lackluster for consumer use. Sure the tech-savvy elite may have some use for it. Sure its nice to know some of your precious documents, photos are somewhere safe if the worst happens.

The best indicator will be whether or not there's an April iOS event. If there isn't, that means previous years' schedules don't necessarily hold anymore. If WWDC is filled with iOS 5 and Lion news, it's possible iPhone 5 won't make an appearance.

However, it's also possible that the new features of iOS 5 are so tied in with iPhone 5 that they don't want to reveal one without the other. For instance, NFC capabilities.

The existence of an independent iOS event also depends on how necessary Apple deems it. Every year we see new features and a bunch of developers get up and squawk about their software. Is that really even necessary anymore? We know the app store rocks and people are making great apps for it.

There's no telling how it will shake out, but I'm not putting any stock in news and media outlets who live and die by page hits and people paying attention to them, especially when apple is notorious for seeding false rumors to plug leaks.

There was a recent announcement by Sony saying their deliveries to Apple for an 8MP camera would be delayed due to conditions in Japan. I've read other articles suggesting other iPhone components may be in short supply.

The disaster in Japan may have an impact on their release schedule. It might have been tight before, then the earthquake killed it.

It may be tied up to the iPad 2 as well. Supply is going to be choked for quite some time, and they share a lot of components even given their size differences. If apple prioritizes iPad 2 availability, it may make sense to them to delay iPhone 5 a bit. It's the best worst problem to have. They can sell so many units of whatever they make, they just have to decide which unit it's going to be of.

Yes, the iPhone does compete against Android. The last time I went into a AT&T or Verizon store, this was obvious. To say that the iPhone does not compete against Android is silly.

Silly how? iPhone is a hardware and Android is an OS. This is apple v.s. meat. It's not even fruit v.s. fruit

.... Again, the article was about the iPhone vs. Andriod handset sales, not the tablet sales. Another Straw Man approach to a comment about iPhone handset sales.

    ...

When your sales numbers for phones are ~50% of that of your competitor; whereas a few years ago they were barely a blip, then yes that means they are getting kicked in the teeth in handset OS sales.

Since you are talking about "sale". Can you list any Androids device that outsell the iPhone?
---->>>>>>> Buy one get one free --> only 1 device make money, the second is free. So, for 100 Androids devices got on the customers' hand, only 50 of them are "sold".

Sadly, Vegas will cost you more for a week than SF (if you want to do it "right").

And doing San Francisco "right" is close if not more. At least in Vegas you have massive competition for your entertainment dollar. San Francisco entertainment venues is this strange, cabal like maze of approval processes with some social engineering objective hidden from the public.

Hotels, restaurants and other "substance" costs are a hell of a lot cheaper in Vegas than in San Francisco. I did Vegas for less than a grand in a week last summer just to see how far I could stretch my dollar. I ended up with free rooms, free food, complementary shows and spent my money on what matters -- booze, guns and women!

yeah for real. but that iMac sure does seem nice

Someone claim the got 43 mins frame time on the biadv with a core i860 and Linux, same CPU as the higher end iMac. That is the same as my 3Ghz 8 core Mac Pro. You think it is possible?

I use my 3GS everyday at work as my ipod. After work, i get in my truck plug my phone in...43- 50%. After the 4.3.1 update i my phone went dead after 5 hours of ipod play. I had to turn off all location services, ect to squeek through the 8 hour day and plug it in after work at under 10%. Hope this update fixes the battery drain issue!

After the Month of Kernel Bugs, are you concerned about Mac OS X security?

    No - 62%

See, that bugs me. Everyone should be concerned about security. I believe OS X's overriding security feature is obscurity, and once that situation changes I can see the OS falling over very quickly.

One of the weakest links in the chain is the user, and if the user is not concerned then you have a problem.

Dont get me wrong, I think OS X is great, but it just hasn't been "weathered" in the wild like Windows has. If OS X becomes a viable target then we're in for a bumpy ride.

OSX is based on FreeBSD, which has been around for an eternity and includes modules from even older Unixy stuff. There's paying attention, there's worrying, and then there's running around with your hair on fire digging for a bomb shelter with your bare hands. We're at the pay attention stage.
MOKB showed that the kernel can be a source of bugs and that OS design should incorporate this problem into the design. This doesn't mean panic or worry or take a pair of scissors to your broad-band connection, this means Apple has some things to fix. It also showed that wireless is inherently insecure and the problems with drivers can affect Windows, Mac OSX and Linux.
Again, MOKB isn't all that important, it's Apple's response to problems that really matters.

    Ok a couple of things

Assume Apple and Amazon have the same deals with the record labels which is most likely the case.

Sure, they both have a deal that lets the labels set the prices. And the labels are underselling their digital copies on Amazon.

It is actually more likely they don't have the same deal. MP3 like Kindle files are loss leaders for Amazon. They are there and cheap to draw folks to the website where they will buy other more profitable things. That can only be done if Amazon has price control.

That they are being used that way has gotten the public ire of the publishers and soon the labels will probably start talking smack as well

If Lion does give you the ability to emulate iOS apps on your Mac....

How do you control them? A touch-screen iMac is a non-starter because of the "Frankenstein Posture", not to mention the smudges on the screen. A touch-screen laptop wouldn't be much better. I don't like the lying-down-iMac like in that recent patent, but maybe that's just me.

The Magic Trackpad is already a touchscreen, just with no display behind it. What if a new one came out with a display and some kind of ARM processor? (It could be an old, really cheap onethe Mac would be doing the heavy lifting.) You could pretend it was an iDevice, download apps for it, interact with them on the trackpad while the main display mirrored what you were doing.

Building the same functionality into laptop trackpads would be a later step, if this caught on, but wouldn't such a Magic Trackpad be an iDevice: "iX", associated with a "Mac", that they just haven't thought up a name for yet? It would debut this summer with Lion, to take advantage of the fusion between iOS and OS X.

Or Apple realized most people don't need a backlit keyboard? I honestly don't see a need for one, and I'm guessing most users don't need it. So it was probably a easy option to axe for either space or battery life. Don't expect it to return.

I don't know, it's been on all aluminum models since 2003. After all these years Apple decided no one really wanted it? (A lot of people on these forums obviously wouldn't agree with that).

To save battery life? You can turn it off if you want. Problem solved.

But I think the biggest advantage is that it would be very very simple to adjust the interface to dial phonenumbers, type text messages, and so on. In other words: the iPhone would be within handreach, and it would not require dozens of buttons added to interface (eg via a dock connector like the FM radio) I believe this was planned for 2006

This is what I thought when I saw the report on the Apple patents for the different interfaces (number pad, 4-way "cross" control, iPod controls, etc.). What if those "alternative" controls were actually all "displayed" controls on a none-touch screen, and Apple is planning on making this device your iPod, your cell phone, and your gaming machine? Depending on what you select, the proper controls will appear.

We know Apple was looking to hire a game programmer for the iPod. We think Apple's working on a cell phone based on comments made at the last financials meeting. We saw the patents for the various control interfaces, coincidentally all being shown on the same form factor.

My concerns are cost(how in the world could Apple make such a device that's also affordable) and simplicity(most iPod reviewers seem to come to the conclusion that it's the iPod simplicity that's the key to its success). Adding all these features seems very un-Apple and could make the device rather confusing and cumbersome.
